UV AND VUV LASERS ON THE BASE OF RUNAWAY ELECTRONS BEAM

   New principles of obtaining of high current beam of runaway electrons (current density j~100 A/cm2; energy of e-beam E=3 - 5 keV) at some tens of torrs of molecular gas pressure were developed. It was defined that the runaway e-beam can be able to excite effectively high lying electron levels of nitrogen. Now we are carryng on research intended to create absolutely new type of lasers in UV and VUV radiation wavelength regions based on runaway e-beam. Special efforts will be done toward development of N2 an Ar2 lasers with ecologically pure active media as well as generation on the solid state laser crystals excited by runaway e-beam.
